ABIDJAN - FIBA Africa hosted a pair of important meetings at its headquarters in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire at the end of last week.

On Wednesday-Thursday 18-19 May, the Zone Presidents of Africa held an extraordinary meeting. Then, on Friday 20 May, FIBA Africa's Women's Basketball Council convened a working session.

The attendees of the extraordinary meeting covered important talking points regarding the growth of the Sports including:
- The reorganisation of the zone's structure;
- The presentation of FIBA's new Competition system and calendar;
- The organisation of AfroChallenge, FIBA Africa's new national teams tournament.

Over the course of the two days, FIBA Regional Office Director, Alphonse Bile, and the President of FIBA Africa's zones' Commission, Anibal Manave, urged the presidents of all zones to get fully involved in the implementation of FIBA's new competitions system and calendar set to come into effect in 2017 and the organisation of the FIBA Africa youth Tournaments.

The meeting took place in the presence of: Omar El Barshushi, President of Zone 1; Rokhaya Pouye, President of Zone 2; Samuel Ahmedu, President of Zone 3; Juvenal Lufuma, President of Zone 4; Hesham El Hariri, President of Zone 5; Anibal Manave, President of Zone 6 and FIBA Africa Vice-President; Ntsay Louis Abel and President of Zone 7.

On Friday, FIBA Africa's Women's Basketball Council held its annual meeting as part of the 2014-2019 term of office.

During the session, the members of the board focused on relevant topics including:
- The organisation of the women's continental competitions for 2016-2017;
- The training project for referees, coaches and technical commissioners.

The meeting also presented the opportunity to discuss the strategy to increase the visibility of women's basketball on the continent.
