EuroCup Women - Regular Season Week 5 Review

VIDNOJE (EuroCup Women) - One of the standout stories of 2015 has been the breakthrough of 17-year-old Russian sensation Maria Vadeeva and the teenager has hit new heights to carry Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje into the EuroCup Women Round of 16.

Exploding onto the senior international scene at EuroBasket Women 2015 prior to helping Russia get to the Final of the FIBA U19 Women's World Championship and widely tipped for greatness, the centre erupted with a spectacular 34 points and 11 rebounds in her latest outing.

That propelled Sparta&K to a 91-70 win against Adana Aski in Group A as they punched their ticket for the next phase of the tournament, along with Besiktas who outlasted Piestanske Cajky 65-60 on the road thanks mainly to 24 points from veteran guard Cappie Pondexter.

There were also several other teams who secured their advancement during the penultimate week of the regular season - with historical high notes for first timers Dike Napoli and Basketball Nymburk. The former took a dramatic 64-62 triumph at Valosun KP Brno behind 16 points from Chiara Pastore to progress, while Nymburk have made it safely out of Group F with a 79-54 victory against Elfic Fribourg, as Lithuania national team player Egle Siksniute rattled off 17 points.

Heading into the last week of the competition's first stage, there is plenty still on the line and multiple Round of 16 tickets remaining uncollected.

WBC Dynamo enhanced their chances in Group B as they locked out visiting Orduspor in the closing minutes to take a 64-60 victory as Anastasiia Pimenova amassed 19 points. TTT Riga moved to the cusp of a place after storming past Udominate Basket 79-57, after Zenta Melnika struck 18 points. A highly productive offering from Ivory Latta boosted the chances of Edirnespor in Group C during a 73-61 win against Tsmoki Minsk.

However, Chevakata were dealt a blow when they were felled by domestic rivals Enisey Krasnoyarsk 69-64. A disastrous 21-5 third quarter proved costly, with the visitors propelled by Belarus national team forward Maryia Papova, who had a game-high 23 points.

Already safely into the Round of 16, Istanbul Universitesi protected their unbeaten run in Group D as they eased past Energia Ivanovo, 72-59, with EuroBasket Women champion Sasa Cado providing the main thrust with 20 points.

Lulea BBK improved their situation by moving past Dunav 8806 in an entertaining 77-74 match-up. Veteran Sweden forward Anna Barthold garnered 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Nantes Reze took an 85-74 victory to deny TSV 1880 Wasserburg a third win on the bounce in Group E as Queralt Casas sunk a stellar 26 points, while Umana Reyer edged nearer to progressing with a 74-61 Group E win at Pinkk Pesci 424.

Basket Landes are already safely in the Round of 16 and they stayed perfect as they swept aside Peac Pecs 71-51 in Group F - Carmen Guzman starred with 17 points and seven assists.  Aluinvent Miskolc are also yet to lose in Group G after beating Orange Blizzards 84-74 in Amsterdam. Alyssia Brewer headlined with 19 points and 16 rebounds, alongside 21 points from Belarus winger Tatsiana Likhtarovich.

Finally, Belfius Namur Capitale enhanced their chances of extending their participation after 20 points from Emmanuella Mayombo spearheaded a 74-62 win at Uni Gyor.
