EuroBasket 2015 Zagreb Trophy Tour stop is in the books

ZAGREB (EuroBasket 2015) - EuroBasket 2015 continues to edge nearer and another stop on the EuroBasket Trophy Tour is in the books.

The latest stop on the European-wide tour saw Frenkie and the Nikolai Semashko Trophy passing through Group C host city, Zagreb.

Frenkie and the trophy were in the Croatian capital from Sunday through Tuesday, kicking off the tour by participating in a relay through the streets of the city on Sunday morning.

The relay, beginning in Kresimir Cosic Square and finishing in Drazen Petrovic Square, saw the involvement of a number of Croatian Olympic medallists, the national women's basketball team, national youth team medallists, and NBA player Damjan Rudez.

At the completion of the relay, the Croatian Basketball Federation hosted a press conference at Drazen Petrovic Museum.

Speaking at the conference, Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic spoke of the pride his city feels in hosting the event.

"We are promoting and presenting today the trophy of EuroBasket 2015. I am pleased that we do this here in Zagreb, and that our city will host one of the EuroBasket groups," he said.

"A few days ago we paid a visit to the Croatian Basketball Federation and I can assure that everything is going according to plan. The city of Zagreb will do everything expected - and even more. We have to show that we are great sports hosts. I believe that, if all pieces come together, we can go far."

Bandic also passed on his best wishes to the Croatian women's team, ahead of their opening EuroBasket Women 2015 clash against Russia in Szombathely on Thursday.

Following the press conference, attendees were treated to video footage of the last time that Croatia hosted the event in 1989, a tournament in which Drazen Petrovic was named MVP.

Sunday marked 22 years since the Croatian legend tragically had his life cut short in a car accident.

The trophy remained on display in the Museum throughout Monday and Tuesday, allowing the public the opportunity to get up close for photo opportunities.

The Trophy Tour next lands in Burgos, Spain on 20 June when the city hosts a leg of the Spain 3x3 Tour.
