De Colo aims to bounce back with CSKA

MOSCOW (EuroBasket 2015) - There is no way to sugarcoat the end of CSKA Moscow's Turkish Airlines Euroleague campaign for Nando de Colo.

The France international expected a title and the Russian giants appeared to be closing in on a spot in the championship game in Madrid at the Final Four when Olympiacos staged a late comeback and recorded a stunning, 70-68 triumph.

De Colo is having to put the disappointment behind him and concentrate on the end of the season with CSKA in the VTB United League.

He will then turn his attention to France's national team and its bid to capture a second straight crown at the EuroBasket on home soil.

But the Final Four hangover is not going to be easy to get rid of because of the setback to Olympiacos.

"There is disappointment because we came to Madrid to make a good result and it passed us by," De Colo said.

"The Final Four has been a tough blow but the season is not over yet.

"There are still things we need to achieve."

De Colo was speaking after CSKA's triumph over Fenerbahce Ulker in the third-place game.

When the subject turned to France and their EuroBasket title hopes, he let it be known that he's eager to return to the side.

Last year, De Colo was going to be a leading figure for the team at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain but he got hurt in the build-up to the tournament.

"Yes, of course I will play for the national team, I am clear about that," De Colo said.

"But [I don't talk about it] because I just don't think about the national team right now, I am focused on the [club] season.

"When the national team time comes, I will be ready for it."

We have a title to defend and it will be a great experience for everybody to play at home and I think everybody will be ready. - De Colo

De Colo, as painful as the Euroleague defeat to Olympiacos was, has been able to smile since CSKA's Final Four exit.

Time heals all wounds.

On Thursday, he was reminded of how good he and his club have been all season long.

The VTB-United League honored De Colo as the competition's Player of the Year.

"It's great to receive this prize," De Colo said to FTB-League.com.

"We all worked hard and finished first in the regular season and we continue to battle for a championship in the playoffs.

"Of course, I'd like to thank my teammates and the coaching staff.

"Each one of us is striving to help each other get better and any one of my teammates is worthy of a similar distinction."
