Canada roll to first-place finish at Tuto Marchand Cup; last day's play called off

SAN JUAN (2015 FIBA Americas Championship) - Canada have warmed up for the FIBA Americas Championship with a title after romping to glory at the Tuto Marchand Cup.

There was some bad news however, as a joint decision of the Municipality of San Juan and FIBA, saw the final day of competition (Thursday) cancelled beacuse of weather conditions and the imminent passage of tropical storm Erica through Puerto Rico.

The Canadians, who earlier this summer hosted the Pan American Games in Toronto and finished runners-up to Brazil, beat hosts Puerto Rico78-72.

Andrew Wiggins, who made his senior team bow at the tournament, led Canada with 20 points as they won for the fourth time in as many games.

"I thought it was a hard-fought game - very, very scrappy," Canada coach Jay Triano said.

"I thought Puerto Rico played extremely well, won a lot of the battles, the 50-50 balls and caused problems for us with their size and speed.

"In the end, it was a good win for us, we were able to move the basketball well, we played unselfishly and we really defended when we needed to."

In the day's other game, Argentina won 79-68 over the Dominican Republic.
