Basketball federation of Papua New Guinea visits FIBA in Oceania office

SOUTHPORT, Australia - The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) and FIBA in Oceania came together in the Oceania office on 19-20 of January to develop the BFPNG's strategic plan for the period 2016-2020.

Karo Lelai, the Secretary General of BFPNG, travelled to Southport for the two-day visit. These sessions involved reviewing the federation's current position, strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for potential development and growth.

Areas of focus for this strategic plan include the development of youth basketball, the competition structure and the federation's branding. Through this process, FIBA and BFPNG have been able to identify new initiatives and prospects for basketball in Papua New Guinea that will help BFPNG reach the next level.

"I think it will be received quite well. I'm quite certain that the [Papua New Guinea National] Olympic Committee, the [Papua New Guinea] Sports Foundation and other important stakeholders will also receive this plan quite well once finalised," said Lelai.

With the help of FIBA, BFPNG has now developed a strategic plan draft that will be presented for feedback and approval once David Crocker, FIBA Executive Director Oceania, visits Papua New Guinea later this week.

FIBA sat down with Karo Lelai, Secretary of BFPNG to get her thoughts on the whole process.
