Amaya and Argentina ready to head to Europe

BUENOS AIRES (2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship) - Argentina are preparing to leave South America and head to Europe this weekend as they continue preparations for the FIBA U19 Women's World Championship.

Head coach Hernan Amaya is spending the last few days on home soil with his players in camp at the Centro Nacional de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo (CeNARD), prior to starting the journey to Europe.

Argentina will head for Zaragoza where they will play in a triangular tournament, with a game against host country Spain on Sunday, ahead of meeting with FIBA U19 Women's World Championship home side Russia the following day.

Amaya has trimmed his initial 20-strong roster down to the final 12 who will step out for their country in Chekhov and Vidnoe.

The play-caller held the coaching reins at the event in Lithuania two years ago and will have Magali Armesto and Victoria Llorente back on board with him again wand boasting valuable experience of the competition - although Andrea Ledesma has been ruled out.

Llorente is one of the most highly-rated teenage players in the women's game and will be expected to post another strong showing, having averaged a superb 15.8 points and 7.3 rebounds at the last edition, despite playing against opponents older than her.

Meanwhile, Armesto dished out 3.4 assists per game last year at the U18 FIBA Americas Women’s Championship, which is from where most of the roster is drawn.

Argentina finished third in Colorado Springs and several members of the team will make their global debuts in Russia.

There has been extensive preparation undertaken, with the Federation having entered the U19 team into their own domestic National League recently, to help with chemistry and planning.

Argentina will play in Group A against Netherlands, Russia and Chinese Taipei.

Argentina final roster for 2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship: Julieta Albuerne, Magali Armesto, Aldana Arture, Luciana Delbarba, Agustina Garcia, Emilia Guistiniani, Victoria Lara, Sol Laviero, Augustina Leiva, Victoria Llorente, Julieta Mungo, Sabrina Rodighero.
