USA - Taurasi reaches landmark ahead of WNBA All-Star selection

PHOENIX (WNBA) - A genuine legend and global superstar of the women's game, USA national team veteran Diana Taurasi is continuing to add to her bulging list of individual accomplishments by racking up more milestones in the WNBA.

It has proven a highly productive period of late for the 32-year-old, who is also expected to light it up at the FIBA World Championship for Women in Turkey later this year.

The Phoenix Mercury guard recently became the second All-Time WNBA scorer after moving past Katie Smith , who racked up 6452 points during her career. It means Taurasi is now chasing down the record set by Tina Thompson, but still has a long way to go until she can potentially jump into first position on the distinguished list.

Taurasi also became the player with the third most Player of the Week awards in WNBA history after racking up the eighteenth such honour of her career. This has moved her to within one award of Opals' legend Lauren Jackson and All-Time leader, Tamika Catchings who has twenty to her name.

The Mercury and Taurasi are certainly on fire right now, having extended their franchise record for consecutive victories to eight via a crushing 20-point success against Seattle which also consolidated their status as Western Conference leaders.

And as if that wasn't enough, Taurasi is also preparing to step out at yet another WNBA All-Star game which will be held on her home floor in Phoenix on 19 July.

Voted for by fans, Taurasi is joined by fellow Western Conference starters Skylar Diggins (Tulsa Shock), Maya Moore (Minnesota Lynx), Candace Parker (Los Angeles Sparks) and Brittney Griner (Phoenix Mercury).

Meanwhile the Eastern Conference starters are Shoni Schimmel (Atlanta Dream), Cappie Pondexter (New York Liberty), Elena Delle Donne (Chicago Sky), Angel McCoughtry (Atlanta Dream) and Tamika Catchings (Indiana Fever).

It would appear however that Elena Delle Donne is likely to be replaced as she is currently fighting chronic Lyme disease, while Moore was the player who collected the most votes from supporters.
