Manila West crowned at home World Tour Masters

The 2014 FIBA 3x3 World Tour started in style in the Fashion Hall of the SM Megamall, one of the biggest shopping malls in the world and saw Team Manila West (PHI) bring thousands of local fans on their feet with a 21-17 victory against Doha (QAT).

John Aldrich Ramos was a key contributor in the final, scoring scored 7 points including the game-winner from behind-the-arc. His team-mate, the high-flying Rey Guevarra tallied 7 points as well.

After winning all their games with a 21-17 success over Manila West in the pool stage on Saturday 19 July, Team Doha fell short in the final. Yaseen Musa scored 8 points in the losing effort.

Musa was one of two players (the other being Mohammed Seleem Abdulla) who had won the FIBA 3x3 World Championships in Moscow, Russia on 5-8 June, representing Qatar.

The Manila West triumph did not limit to the 3x3 event as Terrence Bill Ramos won the Samsung Shoot-Out Contest and Guevarra and Rommel Niño ‘KG’ Canaleta shined at the the SMART Dunk Contest, which Kristaps Dargais dominated after a pair of jaw-breaking dunks.

Team Manila West won the 10,000 USD winning prize while Team Doha came home with 5,000 USD. Both teams qualified for the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Final, which will be hosted in Tokyo, Japan on 11-12 October.
