LIGA SUDAMERICANA – Guilherme fires Uniceub/BRB to glory

RIO DE JANEIRO (Liga Sudamericana) - Uniceub/BRB spoiled the party in Rio by beating Final Six Round hosts Flamengo to win the Liga Sudamericana.

Guilherme Giovannoni and Nezinho, a couple of Brazil internationals that played at the FIBA World Championship this summer in Turkey, each had 22 points as Uniceub won the battle of Brazilian clubs, 96-86.

Both sides will play in the FIBA Americas League, along with Boca Juniors after they finished third with a 79-66 triumph over Quimsa Santiago del Estero in a clash of Argentinian sides.

The FIBA Americas League will tip off on December 9.

In the Liga Sudamericana title game, Marcelinho Machado got hot in the first quarter and helped Flamengo to a 33-24 lead but they weren't able to build on the advantage.

Instead, Uniceub fought back and went to half-time with a 53-44 lead.

Flamengo hit right back, going on a 17-3 run to go on top 61-56.

Uniceub rose to the challenge, getting three-balls by Marcio and Nezinho to go back in front.

The contest wasn't decided until the final minutes.

The game was knotted at 75-75 when Marcio scored and Guilherme followed with a three-ball to leave Uniceub in front to stay.

Guilherme was voted tournament MVP.

"We had a great performance as a team," he said.

"We looked good and we got this title by defeating a team like Flamengo in their gym.

"I dedicate this title to everyone, especially to the people of Brasilia who enjoyed this win."

In Boca's win, Mariano Fierro poured in 25 points and Cedric Moodie added 12.
