Diaw launches a fan club to support charity

PARIS - France and San Antonio Spurs frontcourt star Boris Diaw has launched an official fan club to help lend further support to his charity Babac'ards.

Fresh from penning a new deal with the Spurs which will see him stay with the 2014 NBA champions for another three years, the 32-year-old has shown his determination to promote and generate more resources for his charity via this latest venture.

Babac'ards is a play-on-words, with Boris' second name Babacar and the acronym for the Association for the Realisation of Development and international Solidarity projects (ARDS).

The charity has three main goals: 1. to create partnerships with institutions, companies and clubs that invest themselves in actions relating to local young people; 2. to help in the setting up of training programmes for training executives; 3. to focus on encouraging education and development, the setting up of programmes on the environment, civil responsibilities, health prevention and both men and women’s rights.

Diaw is hoping his fan club can assist in underpinning several new development projects across Africa and South America.

Fans are being asked to pledge $25 USD to join the club, of which five dollars will go directly to the charity to finance the work being undertaken by Babac'ards on both continents.

Not only does subscribing to the club help a great cause, it also gives supporters the chance to keep up to date with all of Boris-related news, thanks to monthly newsletters.

Fans will also receive a  personalised membership card as well as a signed autograph, with the first 500 receiving an exclusive UKIND T-shirt.

The eco-friendly brand, created in 2010 by the player himself, combines innovative designs and an urban feel with organic fair-trade cotton.

Diaw is currently preparing with the EuroBasket champions for the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.

Fans are being urged to go to www.borisdiaw.com where they can get more details on becoming a fan club member and supporting Babac'ards.
