Jefferson, Clark cream of the crop in the Second Round

MUNICH (FIBA Europe Cup) - Davon Jefferson and Cameron Clark headline the best individual performers of the FIBA Europe Cup Second Round, having led their respective sides, Gaziantep and Elan Chalon, to the Round of 16.

The second cut-off point in the FIBA Europe Cup saw only six group winners and the two top-ranked second-placed teams advance to the Play-Offs, joined by eight more clubs from the Basketball Champions League.

However, most of the statistical category leaders will continue their pursuit for the FIBA Europe Cup trophy, with only a few big names failing to punch their tickets on the Play-Off-bound train.

Efficiency – Davon Jefferson (Gaziantep)

Davon Jefferson arrived to Gaziantep only midway through the Regular Season and made an immediate impact for the Turkish club, and his play only got better as the competition progressed, allowing him to become the overall efficiency leader in the competition.

The 30-year-old American big man led all players in the Second Round with an average efficiency ranking of 24.2 after putting up 18.4 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game in Group K.

His best performance came in a 90-76 victory against Romanian side BC Mures, when Jefferson scored 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out 2 assists and came up with 3 steals for a ranking of 31.

There was no real competition in terms of the efficiency leaderboard, with next-in-line Chase Fieler of Donar Groningen and Cameron Clark of Elan Chalon not close enough to challenge the Gaziantep man in the middle.

Points – Cameron Clark (Elan Chalon)

Having finished behind Davon Jefferson and Chase Fieler in efficiency, Elan Chalon forward Cameron Clark claimed the Second Round scoring title all to himself after being the only player to hit the 20-point average mark.

The 25-year-old French-based American star averaged 20.0 points and 6.3 rebounds on incredible 62% field goal percentage, including 5-of-12 from three-point range after making only one long-range shot in the Regular Season.

A double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds and a ranking of 30 in a 101-65 rout of Mures was arguably his most impressive performance in the Second Round, even with Clark going on to eclipse his 22-point scoring total on multiple occasions.

The next two spots in the race for the Second Round scoring title were occupied by the Groningen duet of Chase Fieler, who averaged 19.0 points, 8.0 boards, 2.3 assists and 1.0 block, and Lance Jeter, who chipped in with an equally impressive 18.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

Rebounds – Davon Jefferson (Gaziantep)

Davon Jefferson sat out the last game of the Second Round for Enisey, but it did not prevent him from staying atop the rebound leaderboard in spite of late challenges from Moustapha Fall of Elan Chalon and Andrija Stipanovic of Demir Insaat.

Having averaged 10.4 boards per game in the Second Round, the Gaziantep big man became the only active player in double-double territory. The already-eliminated Martynas Echodas, who averaged 16.7 points and 11.0 rebounds, is the only other name on the list.

In terms of his closest challengers, Fall averaged 8.5 points and 9.0 rebounds, while Stipanovic, who had a red-hot stretch just before the Play-Offs, improved his Second Round averages to 13.5 points and 8.5 boards per game.

Assists – Dru Joyce (Tsmoki Minsk)

There was no match for Dru Joyce in the assist category, with the Tsmoki Minsk point guard leading the field with 8.2 dimes per game in the Second Round after setting a new FIBA Europe Cup season-high along the way.

The experienced 32-year-old playmaker registered a 17-assist game in a 91-84 triumph against Kormend and came within one assist of matching Teemu Rannikko's all-time record. The previous season-best belonged to D.J. Cooper, who had collected 16 assists in the Regular Season for Pau-Lacq-Orthez.

Mures guard Goran Martinic from Montenegro was one step off the ladder below with an average of 7.5 assists, while D.J. Cooper averaged 7.2 dimes per game for the third-best result in the Second Round.

Steals – Derek Jackson (Redwell-Gunners)

Although Redwell-Gunners were phased out of the competition in the Second Round, the Austrian club enjoyed a successful campaign in a large part due to the excellent play of point guard Derek Jackson, who made his impact felt on both ends of the floor.

Having contributed in a variety of ways by averaging 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists in Group M, the Oberwart playmaker, who registered at least one steal in all 10 of his FIBA Europe Cup games, also led all Second Round participants with 2.7 steals per game.

Goran Gajovic and Parrish Petty were close runners-up after posting 2.6 steals per game for Mures and Kormend respectively in the second phase of the competition.

Blocks – Mathias Lessort (Nanterre 92)

Despite his young age, Mathias Lessort, one of the top youth prospects in the FIBA Europe Cup, has already become the focal point of Nanterre 92's defensive schemes due to his elite athleticism and knack for protecting the rim.

Although the 21-year-old center saw reduced minutes in comparison to the Regular Season, Lessort was still a productive asset for coach Pascal Donnadieau, averaging 7.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and a Second Round-best 1.8 blocks per game.

Laszlo-Emil Lazar, Moustapha Fall, Brandon Mobley and Jamari Traylor ranked next in the leaderboard with solid numbers, but had to yield the block crown to the up-and-coming French starlet.
