BC Enisey hang on as quarter-final field set in FIBA Europe Cup

MUNICH (FIBA Europe Cup) - Alexey Vzdykhalkin hit a three-pointer from the corner with just one second left in the second overtime period as BC Enisey survived a 104-96 loss to Demir Insaat to advance by the skin of their teeth.

Nursing a 91-81 advantage from the first leg, Enisey were on the ropes after Kenneth Hayes hit a pair of free throws to put Demir Insaat up by 11 with nine seconds left, but Vzdykhakin’s shot gave his side a 187-185 aggregate win.

Earlier, Hayes had put Demir Insaat up 85-73 with 16 seconds left in regulation, only for Frank Elegar to force the first of the two overtime periods.

Zachary Auguste poured in 30 points as Muratbey Usak Sportif beat CSM CSU Oradea 108-82 to overturn a 10-point deficit from the first leg and advance to the Quarter-Finals of the FIBA Europe Cup.

August added 12 rebounds while Sarunas Vasiliauskas scored 28 points, hitting five-of-eight (62.5%) from three-point range.

Together, they helped the hosts lead almost from start to finish.

Usak knew they not only needed to win, but to do so by double-digits, and after Shaquielle McKissic’s three-pointer made it 30-17 with 46 seconds left in the first quarter, they kept the visitors at arm’s length the entire way.

Nanterre edged out Proximus Spirou 86-78 to advance with a 170-163 aggregate win.

With only one point between the two from the first leg, tension was high as the second meeting stayed close throughout.

But it was Nanterre who held the advantage almost all the way, making a decisive move with a 9-0 run that spanned the third and fourth quarters and put them 70-57 up with Chris Warren’s two-pointer with 8:56 remaining.

"We started good the second half well to get a comfortable lead," expressed Nanterre's Chris Warren following the game. "But Spirou is a very good team who have been always dangerous so I am very happy with the win.

"We play to win as competitors and we will try to go as far as we can."

An 80-65 win for Gaziantep over Ironi Nahariya was not enough for them to overturn a 21-point deficit from the first leg as they lost 161-155 on aggregate. Gaziantep made a fight of it, though, and more than than the visitors’ attention when Andy Rautins put them 53-32 up midway through the third quarter, prompting a late fightback that kept Nahariya in the competition.

Telenet Oostende nursed home their narrow advantage as a 72-70 loss to Pau-Lacq-Orthez on the night was enough for a 165-158 aggregate win.

Telekom Bonn Baskets outscored Kataja Basket 28-12 in the final quarter to end home hopes of an upset, with Bonn’s 88-84 win sealing a 179-156 aggregate win.

Scott Reynolds scored 19 points to lead Cibona to a 102-83 victory over Stelmet Zielona Gora as they cruised through with a 183-152 aggregate win.

It finished all-square on the night in Chalon sur Saone, but an 82-82 tie was not enough for Kormend after their 99-78 loss to Elan Chalon in the first leg.
