MVP Chartereau headlines All-Star Five

SOPRON (FIBA U18 Women’s European Championship 2016) - Alexia Chartereau capped a wonderful tournament by claiming MVP honours to lead an All-Star Five that included players from five different countries.

Chartereau is the French captain and inspiration, leading a talented squad that was crowned European champions after an impressive 74-44 victory in the Final against Spain. Chartereau led the way with 19 points, swishing a pair of three-pointers in the first quarter to set the tone.

She had three double-doubles overall, including in the Semi-Final and the Final, although arguably her biggest contribution came in scoring the game-winner as France survived a huge scare against Lithuania in the Round of 16.

Spanish wing Naira Caceres was nominated as the stand-out performer in the strong Spain squad that earned the silver medal. Caceres had a near double-double in the Quarter-Final victory over Turkey before knocking down some vital shots in the Semi-Final win over Russia.

Hungarian playmaker Reka Lelik ran her team with a trademark calm composure as the hosts finished fifth overall, earning a spot at the FIBA U19 Women’s World Championship 2017 that will take place in Udine, Italy. Lelik dished out the most assists per game at the tournament and ended up as the third highest scorer too.

Russian center Raisa Musina claims her second honour of the summer after making the All-Star Five at the U20 Women’s European Championship in Matosinhos. She led the tournament in scoring and rebounds here and she had a double-double in all six of her appearances, scoring the game-winner in Russia’s opener against Italy and notching 26 points in the 3rd-Place Match.

Forward Digna Strautmane was Latvia’s heartbeat on their historic run to the Semi-Finals, and she finished as the tournament’s leading shot-blocker. She recorded five double-doubles in her seven matches.
