Roundup: More silverware lifted around European Leagues

MUNICH (EuroLeague Women / EuroCup Women) – More titles have been clinched around Europe recently, with Championships being determined in leading leagues such as Russia, Spain Italy, Hungary and Poland.

UMMC retain title in dramatic conclusion in Russia
There was no higher drama anywhere than in the Russian Premier League as UMMC Ekaterinburg defended their title by the narrowest possible margin. Led by Diana Taurasi who netted a brilliant 33 points, the visitors took a thrilling 83-82 road win in game five of an enthralling series against EuroLeague Women winners, Dynamo Kursk.

Salamanca celebrations as Avenida top Spain again
Perfumerias Avendia were crowned Liga Femenina champions as they hung on to their main prize with a convincing 67-46 success at Pabellon Wurzburg against Spar Citylift Girona, who had forced a third and deciding game in the series.

It was a great evening for Serbian star Jelena Milovanovic, who led her team to victory with a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double.

She was crowned MVP, but it proved to be her last action in an Avenida vest after opting to return to her former employers Sopron for next season – along with her team-mate, Angela Salvadores.

Wisla Can Pack turn to Szewczyk after losing BLK crown
The now former Polish champions Wisla Can-Pack have opted to end the reign of Spaniard Jose Hernandez, after they relinquished their coveted title to main rivals Sleza Wroclaw. Krzysztof Szewczyk has jumped into the coaching hot-seat in Krakow, having impressed at AZS UMCS Lublin during the last three seasons.

While Wisla took the Finals to game five, they were comprehensively undone 80-53 as eventual MVP Sharnee Zoll-Norman posted a rare triple-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists.

Sopron defend their title in Hungary
Uniqa Sopron shrugged off losing out on top spot during the Regular Season to Atomeromu, by taking their revenge in the Championship Finals.

The champions took their third title in succession as they outgunned their opponents 82-56 to wrap things up. Aleksandra Crvendakic did the business with 19 points as Sopron finished with a flourish. The club have since confirmed there will be many new arrivals next summer in a revolution that will be led by new head coach, Roberto Iniguez.

Schio shocked by Gesam Gas Lucca



EuroLeague Women side Beretta Famila Schio have been left reeling after they lost the Italian Championship to Regular Season runners-up, Gesam Gas Lucca. They were beaten 65-50 as New Zealand star Jillian Harmon continued her great form with 19 points on a memorable night for the hosts.
