EuroLeague Women Preview: Wednesday 22 February

MUNICH (EuroLeague Women) – It’s the last week of the Regular Season and several teams are still battling for the last remaining Quarter-Final places in both EuroLeague Women and EuroCup Women.

There is a full program of eight games, including potential drama in Group A where Beretta Famila Schio and BLMA are taking their duel for fourth spot right to the wire.

Montpellier are favorites as they are currently 7-6, with a win at Wisla Can-Pack guaranteed to book their spot. However, if they lose and Schio can overturn ZVVZ USK Prague at home, the Italians will progress.

"I think we are capable of winning in Krakow," said the long-serving BLMA guard, Gaelle Skrela.

"It's never easy to play away in EuroLeague Women, but attitude and mental strength will play an important part."

Meanwhile BLMA head coach, Valery Demory added: "I want my team to push to its limits, so we aim to qualify for the last eight of the competition.

"But, it's not the end of the world if we end up in the EuroCup Women Quarter-Finals."

Also in Group A, Fenerbahce face Mersin in an all-Turkish meeting, while Dynamo Kursk will be confident of being the only team to go through the Regular Season undefeated when they step out at bottom-placed side CMB Cargo Uni Gyor.

It's Hatay or Tango Bourges Basket for the last ticket in Group B and both clubs meet in Antakya, with the French side holding the ace card after beating their rivals earlier in the season by 13 points and also boosted in confidence after a win against Perfumerias Avenida last week.

If Perfumerias Avenida win in Orenburg against Nadezhda, then Hatay need the head-to-head against Bourges. The situation is further complicated by the fact that three teams could finish 7-7 if Avenida lose at Nadezhda and Hatay win. The Turkish club will need to win by 23 points to advance, although at least have the consolation of having already guaranteed themselves a place in the EuroCup Women Quarter-Finals.

There is one EuroCup Women last eight place remaining and it will go to either ESBVA-LM or Uniqa Sopron. The Hungarian visitors need to collect an 11-point victory on French soil to pip their hosts.

Finally, UMMC will look to make it 13 straight wins against lowly CCC Polkowice when the teams take to the court in Ekaterinburg.
