Success for Samsun Canik Belediye in pre-season tournament

ATHENS (EuroCup Women 2017) – Samsun Canik Belediye are celebrating a confidence-boosting run at the Vasilis Sakopoulos International Tournament, edging out fellow EuroCup Women competitors Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje.

While Sparta&K have their place in the EuroCup Women Regular Season assured, Samsun are going to have to manoeuvre their way past a Qualifier against Chevakata Vologda - with this triumph possibly providing a valuable springboard to the group stages if they can maintain their form.

Having taken care of host club Sporting 83-44 before losing to Greek side Panathinaikos 73-59, they took down Sparta&K in their last game. It was Eshaya Murphy who proved to be a difference-maker as last year’s EuroCup Women winner with Tango Bourges Basket contributed 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to help complete a hard-fought 74-66 victory.

While Sparta&K were just edged out against their more experienced opponents, their young players did manage to beat Sporting 66-27 thanks mainly to Maria-Margarita Davydova collecting a nice double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. However they were unable to prevent a 65-53 reverse against eventual champions Panathinaikos – despite 12 points from the wing by Daria Kolosovskaia.
