Last three spots in the Round of 8 snapped up

MUNICH (EuroCup Women 2017) - The last three tickets for the Round of 8 were punched on Thursday night as Yakin Dogu Universitesi, Reyer Venezia and VBW CEKK Cegled all advanced to the next stage of the competition.

Already holding a six-point advantage from the first leg, Reyer Venezia posted a stunning 72-51 road win at Maccabi Bnot to seal their place. It was a superb win against an opponent boasting the likes of Farhiya Abdi, Shay Doron and Erica Wheeler.

But, Venezia showed they might yet emerge as contenders as forward duo Ashley Walker and Marie Ruzickova shot a combined 11 of 14 to put Maccabi to the sword.

Newcomers Yakin Dogu Universitesi impressed as they eased their way past fellow rookies Rutronik Stars Keltern by 85-58 and they will now match up against Venezia.

"We played extremely well offensively and defensively - and especially in the second half," said Montenegro national team center, Angelica Robinson who harvested nine boards in the contest with Keltern.

"I am proud of my team-mates and we are happy about moving on to the next round.

"We have some improvements still to make especially on offense, but what I like about my team is that we stay positive and our coaches have been supporting us on what we do at both ends of the floor.

"So go Yakin Dogu, and next round here we come!"

VBW CEKK Cegled took the last remaining berth in what has been a terrific rookie season for the Hungarian club.

Carrying a seven point lead from the first leg against TTT Riga, Cegled left the Latvian capital with another triumph to their name as they won 61-57, thanks mainly to 13 points from Gunta Basko-Melnbarde.

Cegled will now match up against surprise package Good Angels Kosice who, as the last team to seal their spot in the Round of 16, are now flying high and aiming to continue their stay in the competition in the Quarter-Finals.
