EuroCup Women Round of 8: social media spotlight and reaction

MUNICH (EuroCup Women) - We check in with some of those involved in the EuroCup Women Round of 8 first leg match-ups and see how it played out on social media.

Reyer Venezia are looking well set for the second leg in Istanbul after they completed an eye-catching 65-56 victory against Yakin Dogu Universitesi. It was one that left head coach Andrea Liberalotto thrilled.

He said: "We had a big night and we played a great game, because Yakin Dogu Universitesi are a really great team.

"Congratulation to my players, as we played our [style of] basketball.

"There was a great sacrifice from everyone and now we have to keep going," added the play-caller.

Swedish national team star Elin Eldebrink was trying to look on the bright side from a Yakin Dogu perspective after they trimmed the gap near the end of the contest when it had previously been 16 points.

She said: “It was a tough game and we are disappointed for the defeat, but it’s not over and next week we have to play another kind of game.

"Absolutely, we will not give up [on this tie]," insisted Eldebrink.

Another Turkish team who slipped to a loss were Bellona Agu as they were beaten 71-63 at Spar Citylift Girona. It was a big disappointment for a club being touted as genuine silverware challengers.

Indeed, the Kayseri side had not been beaten all season until their setback on Spanish soil and that was reflected afterwards by Dila Askin.

She said: "I really don't even want to talk about the game because we lost!

"But, we're going to play better and fight even more when we are back on our home court," warned the guard.

Flying the flag for Turkey and getting a victory to their name were Galatasaray and Isil Alben, who won 77-67 at Virtus Eirene Ragusa.
