EuroCup Women Preview: Wednesday 15 February

KAYSERI (EuroCup Women) – It’s been a hectic week or so for Spar Citylift Girona and that suits the in-form Ify Ibekwe who is ready to fire her team into the EuroCup Women Quarter-Finals.

The forward has been on fire of late and was the star performer for her team in the 71-63 first leg Round of 8 victory on home soil against Bellona Agu.

Now Girona must finish the job when they step out in Kayseri.

They'll be hoping they can find the energy and mental fortitude to get up off the canvas after their gut-wrenching 2017 Copa De la Reina Final defeat, which was sandwiched in between both EuroCup Women fixtures.

"We think that we played very well together against Bellona Agu," said Ibekwe, who secured a double-double during the Copa Final disappointment, having also accumulated 21 points and 9 rebounds against Agu.

"We know that it will be hard to play in Kayseri, but I believe that if the team plays together [as we did in the first game] then we will win.

"We have had a lot of games in a few days, but we are professional players and we are proud to play and will be trying our best."

The home side will be relying on experience to make up the shortfall as they head into the game off the back of a first loss in the competition.

Golden oldie Ann Wauters continues to show her class in the competition and was a big factor in limiting the damage from the first game as she harvested 20 points and 13 boards.

Bellona Agu are also looking to continue their impressive record in the competition and what would be a third Final in six years. They are also riding high in the Turkish League and will pose a strong challenge for their visitors from Spain.
