It's wait and see on Kazlauskas

VILNIUS (FIBA EuroBasket 2017) - Coaches of national teams come and go unless, of course, we're talking about the United States. Mike Krzyzewski took the American reins before the 2006 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Japan and coached the team through their gold-medal run at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

In Lithuania, where Jonas Kazlauskas has been in his second stint as coach of the national side since 2013, the veteran and his team have had very good results - until this summer.

Under his leadership, the Baltic side reached the final at EuroBasket 2013, came in fourth at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and ended up second at EuroBasket 2015.

In Rio earlier this month, Lithuania arrived at the Olympics with some momentum after a good build-up, one that included two victories over Spain - the No. 2 side in the FIBA World Ranking Men.

But after winning three straight games to start to the Olympics, Lithuania suffered a 50-point humiliation against Spain and then fell to Croatia and Australia to crash out of the tournament.

Lithuania were on the road to ruin after a 50-point meltdown against Spain

Kazlauskas indicated to the media upon his return home to Lithuania that his time at the helm was over, but nothing is official yet.

Kazlauskas and the Lithuanian Basketball Federation officials have mutually agreed to meet near the end of the first week of September and discuss what went wrong in Rio before talking about his own situation with the program.

Stay tuned!
