MUNICH (FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Qualifiers) – While five teams, in Russia, Belgium, Slovenia, Montenegro and Hungary, have already secured berths at FIBA EuroBasket 2017 going into the sixth and final day of action in the Qualifiers, 10 other sides have pulled out calculators and are to work out their chances of clinching one of the remaining six tickets to the showcase event.

Below we take a look at the options of each one of these 10 teams still in the race. Keep in mind that seven of the 11 tickets which were on offer in the Qualifiers go directly to the group winners, while the remaining four go to the best second-placed teams.

In order to determine the four best second-placed teams, the results of the games against the fourth-placed team, in each of the groups of four teams, will be removed from the ranking process, in order to rank teams on a ‘like for like’ basis across all of the groups.

In the interest of clarity, where we mention below team records (e.g 3-1, 2-2) in groups of four teams we refer to the Win/Loss record without taking into account games against the fourth-placed team in each scenario.

Group A

Iceland are second in this group, behind the already-qualified Belgium, and their options depend on their result against Belgium as well as who, out of Cyprus and Switzerland, takes third place:
- Iceland will take a 3-1 record and qualify if they beat Belgium and Cyprus beat Switzerland.
- Iceland will take a 2-2 record and will have to wait to see how they rank in comparison to other second-placed teams if they lose to Belgium and Cyprus beat Switzerland (Iceland’s current point differential in the games with Belgium and Cyprus is +18)
- Iceland will take a 2-2 record and will have to wait to see how they rank in comparison to other second-placed teams if they beat Belgium and Switzerland beat Cyprus (Iceland’s current point differential in games with Belgium and Switzerland is -2)
- Iceland will take a 1-3 record and miss out if they lose to Belgium and Switzerland beat Cyprus.

Group B


-Netherlands will finish first in the group (and qualify) if they beat Germany or if they lose by no more than three points.
-Netherlands will finish second at 3-1 and qualify if they lose to Germany and Denmark beat Austria by 21 or more points.
-Netherlands will finish second at 2-2 and will have to wait to see how they rank in comparison to other second-placed teams if they lose to Germany and Austria beat Denmark.
-Germany will finish first (and qualify) if they beat Netherlands by four points or more.
-Germany will finish second (and qualify) if they beat Netherlands by less than four points and Austria beat Denmark.
-Germany will finish second at 2-2 and will have to wait to see how they rank in comparison to other second-placed teams if they lose and Austria beat Denmark.
-Germany will finish second at 1-3 if they lose to Netherlands and Denmark beat Austria by 21 or more points; in this last scenario Germany cannot qualify.

Group C

As this is the only three-team group and second-placed Bosnia and Herzegovina have played out all their games, we already know where they stand.
- Bosnia and Herzegovina finished at 2-2 and with a points difference of -35 points, which means they need at least three second-placed teams in other groups to finish at 2-2 with a points difference of -36 or lower, or at 1-3.

Group D


It is worth pointing out that in case there is a three-way tie in this group, the current point differential between Poland, Belarus and Estonia (prior to the game between Estonia and Poland on Saturday) is: Poland 13, Belarus -2, Estonia -11.
- Poland will take first place (and qualify) if they beat Estonia.
- Poland will take first place (and qualify) if they lose to Estonia by no more than 14 points and Belarus lose to Portugal.
- Poland will take second place and will have to wait to see how they rank in comparison to other second-placed teams if they lose to Estonia by more than 14 points and Belarus lose to Portugal.
- Poland have no chance of qualifying if they lose to Estonia by 16 points or more and Belarus beat Portugal.
- Estonia will take first place (and qualify) if they beat Poland by 15 points or more.
- Estonia will take second place at 2-2 and will have to wait to see how they rank in comparison to other second-placed teams if they beat Poland by less than 14 points and Belarus lose to Portugal.
- Estonia will take second place at 2-2 and will have to wait to see how they rank in comparison to other second-placed teams if they beat Poland by at least 9 points and Belarus beat Portugal.
- Belarus will take second place at 2-2 and will have to wait to see how they rank in comparison to other second-placed teams if they beat Portugal and Estonia lose to Poland.
- Belarus will take second place at 2-2 and will have to wait to see how they rank in comparison to other second-placed teams if they beat Portugal and Estonia beat Poland by 16 points or more.

Group E


- Ukraine will finish first in the group (and qualify) if they beat Slovenia by 8 points or more.
- Ukraine will finish second in the group at 3-1 and qualify if they beat Slovenia by 1 to 7 points.
- Ukraine will finish second in the group at 2-2 and will have to wait to see how they rank in comparison to other second-placed teams if they lose to Slovenia.

Group F


- Georgia will finish first in the group (and qualify) if they beat Montenegro by 3 points or more.
- Georgia will finish second in the group at 3-1 and qualify if they beat Montenegro by 1 or 2 points.
- Georgia will finish second in the group at 2-2 and will have to wait to see how they rank in comparison to other second-placed teams if they lose to Montenegro.

Group G


Great Britain have already secured second place behind Hungary and since they are playing fourth-placed Luxembourg on Saturday their record and point differential can no longer change (same case as Bosnia and Herzegovina in group C). Great Britain are at 2-2 and have a +17 points difference, so they need at least three second-placed teams to finish with either a worse record or the same 2-2 record but a point differential of +16 or lower.
