FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Trophy Tour set to begin Sunday

MUNICH (FIBA EuroBasket 2017) – The FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Trophy Tour sets off on its 24-country journey this weekend, beginning with Riga, Latvia on Sunday.

Riga, one of the four host nations of FIBA EuroBasket 2015, also had the honor of being the first stop on the 2015 Trophy Tour, therefore taking on special significance as the build-up to FIBA EuroBasket 2017 enters its next phase.

The current trophy, now in its third version, is named after former FIBA Europe President and FIBA Vice-President, Nikolai Semashko, and was officially presented at the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Draw in November 2016.

Maintaining the same shape and feel of the previous edition of the trophy, which was last lifted by Spain in 2015, version 3.0 has been created in line with the trophies of FIBA's other continental championships, which will also be played out in 2017 in Africa, the Americas and Asia.

The ambitious tour will stop in each of the 24 FIBA EuroBasket 2017 participating countries, offering fans the opportunity to see the Nikolai Semashko Trophy up close, as well as offering additional exposure to each of the participating teams ahead of September.
