Egypt and hosts Mali dominant on Day 2 of Africa U16 Championship

BAMAKO (2015 FIBA Africa U16 Championship) - Mali and Egypt were dominant in Friday's action of the 2015 FIBA Africa U16 Championship.

While the North Africans Egypt hammered Rwanda95-36, hosts Mali cruised past Algeria, 73-47.

Rwanda had a good start, leading 17-10 in the first quarter, but could not maintain their lead for long enough as the Egyptians rallied to take a 37-23 halftime lead.

After the break, they took complete control of the game, capitalising on Rwanda's 42 turnovers.

Egypt, who finished second two years ago, got 54 points from their bench as they took their first win of the tournament.

Youssef Abdrabou finished with game-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds in the winning cause.

Meanwhile, in their second game, hosts Mali scored a convincing win over Algeria.

The game was close throughout the first half though, with the Algerians only down 34-31 at the break.

The Malians broke the game wide open by outscoring their opponents 15-4 in a pivotal third quarter and the Algeria could not mount a comeback the rest of the way.

Mali's Abdoulkarim Coulibaly and Algeria's Mohamed Akram Sahbi finished with 16 points apiece.

Reigning champions Angola beat Ethiopia79-64, in their Group B clash, to extend their good start in their title defence.

The Angolans led 23-10 at the end of the first quarter and 33-20 at the break.

Leu Brhane Tafere had a game-high 24 points for the Ethiopians who rallied back in the second half but ultimately were dominated in all aspects of the game.

Miguel Fernandes and Buiamba Garcia had 18 points apiece in Angola’s winning efforts.

In Group B's other game, South Africa beat Tunisia57-51, to take their first win.

It was a highly-competitive game as South Africa had a one-point (41-40) lead entering the final quarter and they held on for the win thanks to Sicelo Dzingwa, who hit three of four free-throws down the stretch.

In the day's last game, Nigeria saw off Equatorial Guinea, 76-47.
