DONGGUAN (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019) - A senior FIBA delegation led by FIBA Central Board Member and Chairman of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Coordination Committee Burton Shipley held a productive meeting with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, China.

The LOC's co-Secretary Generals, Li Jinsheng and Chen Jie, together with key LOC members from all eight hosting cities, were also present for the one and a half day session that took place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

FIBA shared preliminary ideas for the next edition of its flagship event with the LOC on a number of topics including competition format and schedule, 1000-day promotion plan, branding and logo identity. FIBA also emphasised the importance of functioning in a timely manner and the value of precise coordination of the Joint Management Committee (JMC) in preparation for the 32-team event, the first of its kind.

The LOC used of the meeting to introduce the organisational structure and to provide updates, including bringing on board the Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, Zhang Jinghua, and two other sports officials. The eight host cities showed great enthusiasm for the World Cup and expressed interest in organising and/or hosting a variety of promotional initiatives ranging from opening ceremonies and draws to youth basketball tournaments and count-down celebrations.

Mr Shipley said: "Thanks to this meeting, I'm fully confident that the LOC is smoothly implementing its responsibilities and doing its utmost to deliver a passionate FIBA Basketball World Cup to fans all around the world."

FIBA and the LOC agreed to reconvene in November for a workshop at FIBA's headquarters in Mies, Switzerland. This will help enhance communications between key LOC staff and their FIBA counterparts.
