LTU - Reserves in training camp

VILNIUS (FIBA Basketball World Cup) - A national team coach sometimes has to make a last-minute change or two to his squad for a major international basketball tournament.

He might have a player go down with an injury, or the coach may need to add depth at a position.

While the odds are that the 13 players in Lithuania's 'B' squad will not travel to the FIBA Basketball World Cup, coach Jonas Kazlauskas needs to have reinforcements ready in case an alteration to the first team is necessary.

He'll be in close contact with reserve team coach Dainius Adomaitis, who is putting the Lithuanian 'B' side through its paces at a training camp in Vilnius until 20 June.

The reserves will then be in Slovenia until 25 June for practices, and two games against the hosts' 'B' team.

Adomaitis and Co will return home and train in Druskininkai, where they also have a couple of friendlies scheduled against the Lithuania U20 squad.

"There isn't much time for preparation and training, so the main focus of the camp is on basketball (tactics)," said Adomaitis.

"During the few workouts are key things to know like where to run, what to do.

"But there are a lot of players who played together last summer, so I think that we’ll prepare very quickly.”

Kazlauskas, who announced a preliminary squad of 24 players for the World Cup last month, is expected to release a trimmed down list of players in the coming days.

Lithuania, who finished third at the 2010 FIBA World Championship and runners-up at last year's EuroBasket, are No. 4 in the FIBA Ranking Men.

Lithuania 'B' squad: Sarunas Vasiliauskas, Paulius Dambrauskas, Zygimantas Janavicius, Vytenis Cizauskas, Adas Juskevicius, Vaidas Kariniauskas, Rokas Giedraitis, Edgaras Ulanovas, Tauras Jogela, Eimantas Bendzius, Evaldas Kairys, Arturas Gudaitis and Mindaugas Kupsas.
