Jordan wax hot in blowout win over India

TEHRAN (FIBA Asia Challenge 2016) – Jordan came out of the gates on fire and never let as they blew India out, 121-65, at the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016 in Tehran, Iran. This was Jordan’s second win of the tournament, and it placed them in a prime position to qualify for the Quarter-Finals.

Turning Point: The last time India led was when Yadwinder Singh put them on top, 7-6, with under 8 minutes left in the first quarter. After that, Jordan woke up and ran roughshod over their opposition, outscoring the Indians, 31-10, for the rest of the period. That set the tone for the rest of the game, and Jordan cruised to the win.

Stats Don't Lie: It was all about shooting in this match up. Jordan shot 55.4% from the field, including a red-hot 52.9% from beyond the arc. In all, Al Nashama hit 18 three-pointers in the game, with Sami Bzai, Sinan Eid and Ahmad Al Hamarsheh combining for a dozen of those made triples. In contrast, India shot under 32% from the floor and made just 4 of their 31 three-point tries.

Game Hero: He didn’t attempt a single trey in this game, but big man Mohammad Shaher Hussein stamped his class in other ways. The 26-year-old, 2.06m center unloaded 13 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block in a wonderful all-around effort. He was the strong inside presence that balanced out Jordan’s brilliant perimeter attack.

The Bottom Line: If this is a sign of things to come, the rest of the field better watch out for coach Sam Daghlas’s squad. They torched India from practically everywhere here, and they never had a cold spell. Chinese Taipei, however, will be a big test tomorrow for this team. On the other end, India have looked a little listless their last two outings after a resounding win over the Philippines on Day 1. They will hope to recover some lost ground against the Chinese tomorrow.
