FIBA AmeriCup 2017 will launch a generational change for the Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO (FIBA AmeriCup 2017) - Melvyn López, Head Coach of the Dominican Republic’s National Team found in the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 a great opportunity to formalize the generational change for the Dominican team.

"This tournament will be very important for the development of our young players. It will serve as a building step to continue to form our national team players," said Lopez to the official website of the Dominican Basketball Federation.

The FIBA AmeriCup 2017 will be played from August 25 to September 3 in Colombia, Argentina and Uruguay.

The Dominican Republic will travel to Montevideo, Uruguay to be part of Group C along with the United States, Panama and Uruguay, from August 28 to 30.

Regarding the preliminary group where the Dominican National Team will play, Lopez pointed out that "wherever the United States is, it will always be a difficult group, but we hope to form a solid team that can compete and reach the podium."

For its part, Group A will be played from August 25 to 27 in Medellin, Colombia and is composed of Puerto Rico, Mexico, Colombia and a South American country to be determined. In Group B of continental competition will be based in Bahía Blanca, Argentina and will be in action from August 27 to 29, along with the Virgin Islands, Venezuela, Canada and Argentina.

The Dominican Republic qualified to the FIBA AmeriCup 2017, while capturing the Bronze medal of the 2016 Centrobasket Championship.
