SAN JUAN (FIBA U16 Americas Championship) - The International Basketball Federation in the Americas announced on Monday that the Official Draws for the FIBA U16 Americas Championships 2017 will take place on Tuesday, May 23 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The Draws will be held in the FIBA Americas Regional Offices at 11:00 (GMT-4), and broadcasted live in Spanish on FIBA’s Youtube Channel.

The FIBA U16 Americas Championship will be played in Formosa, Argentina from June 14-18 and will feature the participation of the National Teams from Argentina, Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, USA and Venezuela.

The FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship will be played in Buenos Aires, Argentina from June 7-11 and will feature the participation of Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, USA and Venezuela.

During the Draw, the participating teams will be divided in two (2) groups of four (4) teams on each.

The pairs for the FIBA U16 Americas Championship Draw are:

POT 1: Canada - USA
POT 2: Paraguay – Dominican Republic
POT 3: Venezuela - Mexico
POT 4: Argentina – Puerto Rico

The pairs for the FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship Draw are:

POT 1: Canada - USA
POT 2: Venezuela – Puerto Rico
POT 3: Colombia – Dominican Republic
POT 4: Argentina - Mexico

The competition system of the U16 continental tournaments consists of two phases. In the Group Phase, the eight (8) participating teams will be divided into two (2) groups of four (4) teams. Teams will play in round-robin format for three days. The best two teams from each group will advance to the next phase, where the first place of Group A will play against the second place in Group B and vice versa. The winners of the Semi-Finals will advance to the Gold Medal Match, while the losers will play for the bronze of the continental event.
