Senegal open first training camp for FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Qualifiers

DAKAR (FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Qualifiers) - Senegal on Monday opened a training camp with a 14-player preliminary roster in Dakar for the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Qualifiers.

It's the first of four three-day training camp sessions before Senegal take on Mali and Guinea in Group B of next month's FIBA Africa Zone 2 Qualifiers.

The team consists mainly of locally-based players and also features former South Carolina State University point guard Louis Adams, who last represented his country at last year's FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in the Philippines.

While head coach Porfirio Fisac is expected to join the team at a later stage, assistant coach Dame Diouf is working with the following players.

Without their foreign-based players, Senegal will look to secure a place in the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Final Round that will take place in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo from August 19-30.

The first leg between Mali and Senegal will be played in the Malian capital of Bamako on 19 March with the return game to follow in Dakar a week later.

"It's great to be back with the national team and have an opportunity to represent my country," Adams told FIBA.com. "The team looks good, but it could get better when the foreign-based players join in."

"I am pleased with the way my players worked in the first session. They are enthusiastic and are prepared to work hard throughout the preparations," said Diouf.
