Dinis, who currently coaches local side ASA in the Angolan BIC Basket League, led his country at last summer's FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade, where the former African champions lost their two Group Phase games.

He will be assisted by Manuel Silva "Gi", who is in charge of Angola U19 men's national team.

Dinis is expected to announce Angola's preliminary squad on March 18.

Talking to the local media, Dinis said he will "will select the most qualified players". Foreign-based players will not be selected for the qualifier, he pointed out.

According to FAB, Dinis' agreement will last for the duration of the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Zone 6 Group G Qualifier, which will take place in Lusaka, Zambia from March 25-30.
