Piran off to flying start at Utsunomiya Masters

UTSUNOMIYA (FIBA 3x3 World Tour) - Team Piran (SLO) had a perfect 2-0 record on the opening day of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Utsunomiya Masters on 30 July 2016.

Piran was the highest-scoring team on Day 1 with back-to-back wins in Pool C against Okoyama (JPN) 18-12 and Taichung (TPE) 22-11 in front of a total of 30,000 people over the day in the scenic background of the Futaarayama Shrine.

24-year-old Anze Srebovt was the leading scorer for Piran with 15pts, including a 9-point outburst against Taichung.

Two other teams finished the day undefeated. Sharpshooter Jasmin Hercegovac was one of the 3 players to lead all scorers with 16 points, including 5 shots from behind the arc and led Ljubljana to pole position in Pool B.

In Pool D, Malaga (ESP) upset the #4 seed St Petersburg to top the pool, largely thanks to Ismael Reina, who also scored 16 points (the third player with this score with Hamamatsu’s Amjyot Singh).

In the tournament opener, Team Doha (QAT) absolutely stunned Novi Sad Al Wahda (UAE). The reigning champs managed to secure their ticket to the quarter-finals after a thrilling win in Pool A against Al Gharafa (QAT).
