Hungary's women and Slovenia's men win Stop 4 of U23 Nations League

COLOMBO (FIBA 3x3 U23 Nations League)- Hungary's women and Slovenia's men won Stop 4 of the U23 Nations League on August 19 2017.

Hungary defeated the Netherlands (20-12) while Slovenia won their fourth stop in a row by beating Czech Republic (21-14).

The pool play started on Friday, August 18 with a strong showing of hosts Sri Lanka, who topped their pools in the women's category. However due to rain delays, the semi-finals and finals were re-scheduled for Saturday morning at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in Colombo.

Heading into the fourth stop of U23 Nations League, Czech Republic led the women's competition with two first places finishes at Stop 2 and Stop 3. However, the Netherlands, ranked 2nd, had other plans for the number 1 seed as they defeated the Czechs in the semi-finals to face Hungary - who defeated the Sri Lankan hosts - in the final.

After a defensive first 5 minutes, the Hungarians pulled away to secure a convincing 20-12 victory, helped by the final two-point shot of Vivi Borondy. It was Hungary's first win on the Nations League circuit.

In the league standings, Czech Republic remain first but are tied with the Netherlands and have a paper-thin 10-point lead over 3rd place Hungary. If one of these 3 teams win Stop 5 on Sunday August 20, they will also win the U23 Nations League trophy.

While on the men's side, Slovenia have dominated the previous stops of the competition and it did not stop here. They handily defeated the Czech team, led by World Tour player Vojtech Rudicky. They are undefeated in 4 stops and have already clinched the title before the last stop.

Stop 5 will take place Sunday August 20. You can watch who will be crowned winners of the inaugural edition of the FIBA 3x3 U23 Nations League live on FIBA3x3's official YouTube channel.
